Today is the 1st day of Ólavsøka, the national festival. One of the main events of today is the national rowing competition held in the harbor. People from all across the country flood into Tórshavn.
I was so lucky to be invited to row, in the early morning, over the sea from Toftir to Tórshavn (11 km) in a ten oars rowing boat. An amazing opportunity for my research and great fun to do.
When we arrived in Torshavn, it had become another town. Half of the people are wearing the traditional costume and are walking the main street, while lots of festivities take place.
For quite a few the merrymaking has been a bit too much.
