Rewriting ‘Motormoeder’ is a totally different job compared to the actual writing. At least in my case. The story covers a period of 40 yearsand because I wrote in such an isolated place I never checked any facts or figures. So the last few days I’m surfing the Internet to find out if all the incidents I invent are possible. Some scenes appear to be impossible and need to be reconstructed.
Beside the Internet I have an amazing collection of books: my mother’s casebooks. She kept, her entire married life, an administration of our household. Easy, when you need to know in which year the courgette became a common vegetable, when the VHS recorder was introduced and how much you paid for a visit to the hairdresser back in 1963.
